upcoming: 未生 The Unborn (9.5 — 7.6.2026)
Fringe Gallery, Vaasa, Finland
If history is, at its core, an act of forgetting, then forgetting itself becomes a form of denial. The deepest kind of forgetting, perhaps, is the quiet consent to what has not even happened.
Whether it is the lone sheep standing before four nameplates that mark a home, the microscopic world of grafted flower seeds enlarged directly in the darkroom, the family negatives transposed into living tattoos as a new mode of remembrance, or the empty vessels: the caged enclosures that bind absence — each serves as a meditation on the "forgetting of the unborn". Together, they form an allegory for the personal and collective tragedy shaped by China's one-child policy.
