Sälä Magazine (Issue 01): THE WORLD'S OLDEST INSTRUMENT
In this interview with Amanda Sandell, Enbo discusses his project recreating the Divje Babe flute — a Neanderthal instrument estimated to be 60,000 years old — using contemporary 3D printing technology. The work bridges historical research and artistic experimentation, composing an original piece for the replicated instrument.
The conversation explores a practice that deliberately refuses to specialize, spanning photography, sound, performance, 3D printing, and AI. Recurring throughout is a dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures, shaped by Enbo's move from China to Finland nine years ago. The interview also touches on his studio at Ateljee10, housed in the former Lapinlahti psychiatric hospital in Helsinki — a space whose layered history echoes the themes in his work.
